Georg Kolbe im Nationalsozialismus

In 2020 an extensive and previously inaccessible part of Georg Kolbe's estate returned to Berlin from the possession of his granddaughter Maria von Tiesenhausen, who had died in Canada in 2019. Numerous art historians accepted the Georg Kolbe Museum's invitation to examine this largely written material — thousands of letters among it — produced between 1933 and the post-war years. First results are presented here on Kolbe's dealings on the art market, his handling of public and private commissions, his participation in exhibitions, his political contacts and his strategies of self-promotion. The volume thus provides a new foundation for work on artists' biographies under National Socialism and encourages more in-depth research.
