In the first edition of 1925 Gropius described the volume as a picture book of modern building: a concise survey of the work of leading modern architects and an introduction to the architectural thinking of the day. This reprint is based on the second, revised edition of 1927, in which some illustrations were added and others replaced. In his preface Gropius observes a growing public interest in the new architectural form, whose purpose, he writes, is “die Gestaltung von Lebensvorgängen” (the shaping of the processes of life). With buildings and designs by Peter Behrens, Walter Gropius, Le Corbusier, Erich Mendelsohn, Georg Muche, J. J. P. Oud and Frank Lloyd Wright, among others. Typography by László Moholy-Nagy, with a foreword by Winfried Nerdinger.
Published in the series bauhausbücher.
