Zwischen Unwägbarkeiten und Widersprüchen

This study critically engages with ethnological provenance research, taking as its example objects from Cameroon in the ethnographic collection of the Landesmuseum Hannover. Its focus is on objects suspected of having been appropriated in contexts of colonial violence. Alongside a critical analysis of the museum documentation, a multi-perspective and multi-local approach also incorporates Cameroonian viewpoints. The author highlights the problems of transferring art-historical provenance research to ethnographic collections and argues for research that does not merely reconstruct but creates new spaces for dialogue, critical reflection and shared knowledge production.
